Federal Focus on Cartels and Transnational Criminal Organizations

The Trump Administration has designated some drug cartels as terrorist organizations as part of its shift towards prioritizing the prosecution of Transnational Criminal Organizations (“TCOs”).

This new focus has a broad range of implications for organizations that may be exposed to cartel activity, be it in their extended supply chain, sales channels, or the services they provide. Ongoing challenges, such as dealing with extortion demands in cartel-dominated jurisdictions and addressing attempts to launder the proceeds of the narcotics trade, have reached a new level of urgency in the new enforcement landscape.

Listen to our panel of experts as they identify practical strategies to detect and mitigate cartel/TCO exposure. The panel covers topics such as:

  • Mapping cartel risk exposure in third party relationships
  • Anticipating and responding to extortion demand activity
  • Cartel money laundering trends and typologies

Nardello & Co. Managing Director & Counsel to the CEO Howard Master, Managing Directors Chris Urben, and Alberto Orozco were joined by Alessio Evangelista, a partner at Skadden Arps.
