King Chan is an associate managing director in Nardello & Co.’s Singapore office, where he leads due diligence, asset tracing, fraud, and litigation-support investigations.

Prior to joining the firm, King served as a public prosecutor with the Hong Kong Department of Justice. In his government capacity, King prosecuted criminal cases involving organized crime, fraud, and securities offences, including one of the largest ever initial public offering frauds involving a Hong Kong-listed company. He began his career as a solicitor in private practice in Hong Kong, representing clients in complex commercial litigation, insolvency disputes, and securities and regulatory compliance matters.

Expérience

  • In leading multi-jurisdictional asset recovery investigations, King has mapped complex business networks, located debtors, and identified undisclosed proxies and hidden assets.
  • While leading a pre-investment due diligence exercise into a prominent Asian businessman and his conglomerate, King uncovered a web of potentially corrupt dealings, as well as troublesome links to cabinet-level politicians and leaders of some Southeast Asian countries. Of particular concern was the subject’s proximity to the 1MDB scandal, one of the largest ever embezzlements of public funds. Armed with an improved understanding of the businessman’s activities, the client was better placed to negotiate terms to protect its interests.
  • On behalf of a multinational company seeking to divest itself from investments in Myanmar following the 2021 coup d’état, King assisted the client in understanding the background and professional network of a potential buyer — a businessman rumored to be well connected to the military junta. In addition to confirming the rumored ties, King’s investigation uncovered questionable business transactions and relationships with other notorious parties. His findings persuaded the client to seek other potential buyers.
