Expérience

  • On behalf of a prominent institution whose employees were being targeted by a virulent online harassment and threat campaign, Chris led a multi-year engagement providing risk advisory services including online threat monitoring, attribution research into anonymous threat actors, outreach to social media platforms hosting threatening content, preparation of materials for law enforcement referral, and online privacy screening for impacted employees. Under Chris’ supervision, investigators monitored threat streams across a range of social media platforms and deep web and dark web forums, identified and assessed hundreds of potential threat actors, and tracked evolving physical security concerns and false narratives related to the client. Chris worked with the client’s senior leadership and external counsel to assess and mitigate threats and provide briefings to government agencies in support of their response, which included the arrest and prosecution of several antagonists.
  • Senior executives of a prominent financial firm were facing an escalating series of external security threats, including potential phishing attempts, spam calls to both company and personal telephones, and other nuisance actions. The client engaged Nardello & Co. to: identify potential information sources, including on the deep web and dark web; conduct a security assessment for exposed executives to assess their information security risks; and conduct an online privacy review to identify potential gaps in security awareness and personal information vulnerabilities. Following completion of this exercise, the client engaged Nardello & Co. to identify and monitor social media impersonator accounts that were using executive identities and likenesses for the purpose of committing fraud. Nardello & Co. conducted research using proprietary automated tools and manual searches in a range of online repositories that collect, buy, and sell personal identifiers and prepared individual mitigation plans for multiple executives. Nardello & Co. also identified impersonator accounts targeting both executives and the firm more generally in support of takedown requests to social media platforms.
  • Managed a sprawling, multi-jurisdictional investigation focused on several individuals who were making spurious claims against a prominent executive. Detailed public records and media research in several countries and languages identified the subjects, mapped their network of contacts and prior business endeavors, and exposed connections to potential fraudulent behavior and previous campaigns targeting other individuals, providing counsel context in support of advising the client on a prospective response.
