Developing evidence to support the prosecution of a vandal who targeted a CEO’s residence

The residence of the chief executive officer was vandalized. Epithets criticizing the company’s stance on a contentious issue were graffitied on the house and vehicles. Flyers of a manifesto against the company and the executive were left at homes throughout the neighborhood. When local police, who characterized it as “only minor property damage,” did not pursue the case, a pharmaceutical company engaged Nardello & Co. Working with the victim, our team developed a strategy: we conducted research on the language patterns and word choice in the graffiti and manifesto, working backwards to identify a suspect. After collecting evidence in the same manner as they had during their years in law enforcement, members of our team authored and turned over to police a criminal referral file in a ‘ready-to-go’ format. This provided governmental authorities with a head start in filing their criminal case, which led to a disruption of the activity.
