When a global industrial firm sought to divest its equity stake in a southeast Asian power plant, it encountered interference from local government officials who attempted to steer the sale to a domestic competitor. The firm retained Nardello & Co. to identify the government representatives responsible for interfering in the share sale, determine their motivation, and provide potential solutions to resolve the impasse. Our investigation found that decision to meddle with the share sale was made at the highest levels of government in order to unfairly privilege a politically connected local firm. With insight gained from the politically sensitive information Nardello & Co. obtained, the global industrial firm was able to reach a settlement to which all parties were amenable and exit the investment in the power plant.
