Investigating possible intellectual property theft by a departing employee.
Suspicious of the actions of one of their clients’ departing employees, a multinational law firm retained Nardello & Co. to investigate an allegation of intellectual property theft. The team found indications of a successful phishing campaign, which required immediate incident response. When the team discovered a malicious download on a user’s computer – a download that contained a popular screen sharing application – Nardello & Co. found that that bad actor had used the application to masquerade as a legitimate customer support service representative and tricked the user into approving an improper transfer of funds. Nardello & Co.’s forensic analysis led to the tracing of some of the stolen assets and resulted in a partial recovery of funds.
